Email: Bande12674@aol.com Articles: I first got my interest in martial arts from watching Kung-Fu-Theater when I was a Kid. When I was younger I was just happy watching it on TV and fooling around with my friends. As I grew older my interest got a little more serious. When I was 18 I started taking Tae kwon Do, soon to realize that my knees could not handle the high kicking. I continued with this for about 6 months, stopping after my first knee injury. Then I met Sensei John when I was going to school at Montclair State University. He told me where he trained in the martial arts so went to the school to check things out. Here is where I met Sensei Doc after a short talk with him I decided to start taking classes. He reassured me that it didn’t matter that I couldn’t kick someone in the face. With Hapkido you can fight effectively even with some physical limitations. After a short time I started training one on one with Sensei John. At this time I was 20 years old and my new goal was to get my Black Belt, no matter what the cost. It took six years of hard work but it was worth it. At first I thought the hard work was over, but I was wrong. Now it gets even harder, the real training gins after you receive your black belt. No matter how old or young you are it’s never a bad time to start learning martial arts. Whether its for exercise or for knowledge there is always something to be gained. Just remember you will get out of it what you put into it. It doesn’t matter what your rank is as long as you are there to learn and give it you full devotion. It may take you ten years to achieve your goal but don’t quit halfway there.
