Some thoughts:
I first became interested in karate watching martial arts movies on television when I was a kid. When I was fifteen,
I began studying goju karate. I stayed with it for about a year or so before dropping out.
I started up with karate again when I was 35 years old. I began studying tae kwon do. The high kicks and
elaborate moves are nice to watch and good for tournament, but I felt that these moves were not practical for
self defense. I began to search for a different school. I could not find out that had what I was looking for.
I attended one of Sensei Doc's classes. It was a different world. The students were learning practical methods
of self defense. Should I get into a situation where I need to defned myself, this school has taught me what I will
need to survive.
I have been lifting weights since I was fifteen and have been a competitive powerlifter for about fifteen years now.
As much as I nejoy the heavy weights, I have always felt that there was something missing. Maybe I was looking for
a way to develop speed, coordination and flexibility. Maybe it was a search for something deeper and more
spiritual.
Sensei Doc is a man unparalleled in both his expertise in the martial arts and as a teacher. He has helped to make
me a better martial artist and a better person. Thank you Sensei.
